Farewell Granddad

I got a text from Dad in the morning at work on 19th July saying that my Paternal Grandfather had passed away last night. It wasn't that unexpected since I know that he had already been hospitalised a few days ago. But you know that feeling of denial and how you just get caught in a time frame?

I wasn't close to him since young as I brought my mostly by my Maternal Grandparents. But then again, he is still my grandpa and was the only living grand parents at that time whom I thought was able to attend my wedding dinner in Jan 7 next year.

But I guess it's good that he has stopped suffering and has gone to the other world to join my grandma. Dad's parents were staunch Taoist and so they didn't believe in Jesus/God. Though I still believe of course, everyone went to heaven because God loves us all. Here's a lighted candle - RIP dear grandpa.

Farewell to Wangwei a.k.a Wabbit

We had a farewell dinner for Wangwei a.k.a Wabbit on Saturday. He has a mid life crisis and is taking a one year break from his job to travel the world. Okay the mid life crisis part was more of a joke I made up! But yeah, lucky him that his boss is letting him take one year off instead resigning. How awesome is that? He gets paid to travel! *Jealous*

Anyway we had dinner at this Malaysia place called Straits Cafe in Doncaster. The food was quite good and authentic and they had the usual prawn noodles, assam laksa, cha kuey tiao etc. It's the first time we've been there and the shop actually stretches to like the back of the house with tables for bigger groups.
Our farewell gift for him - ceramic letters which spelt his nickname and a plague that wishes him good luck. We said that he had to take a photo with them wherever he travels! :p

Group photo with one side of the table, all originally from Gippsland, now residing in Melbourne.

Group photo with the current Gippslanders - couple Eric and Weiwei (left) just had a baby boy called Ethan. I was hoping they had brought him along so we could see him, but they didn't!

Darling took a photo with wangwei (his "concubine") before they said their good byes at the car. We arranged for another meet up before he leaves Melbourne on 12th Mar. But I have a wager on him that he will forget about it! Haha! Farewell wabbit! And may you be like the wabbit on Little Big Planet, have fun in all your travels and pick up stamps! :)

An annoying person, Go for Gold Trivia Night and Lenny's farewell dinner

Boy was I annoyed by a phone conversation I had in the afternoon. For those who might know him, he was an ex Gippy student, a singaporean guy who has a hongkong girlfriend and they are always touchy-feely / over lovey-dovey in front of everyone. :o Now his name happens to start with A and because of that he's on the 1st location of my phonebook and I must have accidently dialled his number without knowing, the next thing I knew he called me back and asked me who I was. We said the usual hello how are you and then he said "Oh I'm surprised you're still here." And I was like "Ah yeahhhhh, I got my PR and stayed on..." What the hell? :X Arrogant shit who thinks so much of himself and think what? Only he has the ability to get PR and stay on? Gosh...

Anyway not to ruin my mood anymore, let's get on to other things. Last friday, we had a Go for Gold Trivia Night - A Company Event. I don't feel right calling my workplace a company because it's more of an organisation. Anyway here are some photos:
Trivia Night
It was held at the boardroom which is usually seperated into 3 meeting rooms. Basically it was a fund raising event for a charity, which was the cystic fiborosis this time. We answered questions about TV shows, songs, history, science and stuff and you can even "buy" answers when you need them.

Trivia Night
These are few of my closer colleagues which I work with, all from the same department. It's too complicated to explain exactly which because we have too many departments!

Trivia Night
Other colleagues from other departments dolled up to the nines... heehee what a team! But they weren't the only team who had "team clothing", another table also had people wearing the same shirt. Too bad we couldn't be bothered.

Trivia Night
And like every CFA event, there's always the okay everyone stands up game, you answer questions and if you're wrong, you sit down and the last person standing wins the prize. I was the 3rd last to sit down, what a shame... haha...

Then darling and I also went for a farewell dinner for our dear Lenny. Like most of our close friends, he too found it hard to get a job here and so he opted to go back to Singapore for the job offers waiting for him instead. Here are some pics from the dinner:
Farewell dinner with Lenny
Lenny's friend Ash also came along. They call him the "guai-lou" because he and his parents have stayed in Hong Kong for more than 10 years because his parents were posted to work there. He's british and he's now studying in Melbourne and no he can't speak a word of cantonese. :P Something like tubby lar haha...

Farewell dinner with Lenny

It's such a sad thing that OZ makes it so hard for people who love their country and want to stay on here. We have had a few close friends who couldn't stay on because of visa or job issues also and now the same thing is happening to Lenny. :( Ah well ladies and gentlemen, we are still waiting for the day that you all will return here for good. And you should know who you are. :D

May the Lord take her into the Kingdom of Heaven

R.I.P in the arms of God, Aunt Mary

My mum just sent me the sad news when I got back from church on Saturday evening. My auntie, who had also been battling the same Colon Cancer as my beloved Grandma and Aunt Janet, had passed away on Sat 12th May. That same disease had taken away the lives of 3 of my loved ones already, will it slowly take us all away too? Since my auntie was the 3rd case, the doctor had warned my mum and other aunties and uncles and maybe even the next generation down to have frequent checkups as this could be hereditary.

Whatever it is, in a time like this, I wished I could be back home with all my relatives and loved ones, to be with my cousins, nephews and nieces, just to be there for physical support. It brings tears to my eyes knowing I can't be there. So in respect, I would put off displaying the Culture Night photos for the time being. You might see a couple on friendster or my gamespot blog.
